If you are calling to set up an inspection, please call between 9am and 3pm and allow 24 hours notice. The South Ogden Building and Inspections Department is responsible for reviewing plans, issuing building permits, and doing field inspections of buildings to ensure compliance with local and state mandated regulations related to building construction, maintenance, and rehabilitation. The Building Department works closely with the Planning and Fire Department to help maintain a safe and livable community.

Why Apply for A Building Permit?

A building permit gives you legal permission to start construction of a building project in accordance with approved drawings and specifications. Your permit also allows the jurisdiction to protect the public by reducing the potential hazards of unsafe construction and ensuring public health, safety, and welfare. By following code guidelines, the completed project will meet safety standards and will be less likely to cause injury to you, your family, your friends, or future owners.

Any owner or authorized agent who intends to construct, enlarge, alter, repair, move, demolish, or change the occupancy of a building or structure, or to erect, install, enlarge, alter, repair, remove, convert or replace any electrical, gas, mechanical or plumbing systems, shall make application to obtain the required permit.

A building permit is typically required for the following types of construction:

    * New Buildings
    * Additions
    * Anything which changes the structure of an existing building.
    * Re-roof
    * Electrical, Plumbing, or Mechanical Systems
    * Fire damage repairs
    * Mobile homes
    * Temporary buildings
    * Demolitions

Who can obtain building permits:
Contractors
who are licensed in the State of Utah.

Homeowners, if they’re performing work on their own property and that property is their primary residence.

All work on commercial property requires a licensed contractor
