South Ogden man arrested for allegedly stabbing roommate to death

Jesus Martinez Ramos, 44, was booked in Weber County Jail on Tuesday, and is being held on charges of criminal homicide, a first-degree felony, and obstruction of justice, a second-degree felony.

At 8:25 p.m. Monday, South Ogden Police officers were dispatched to the area near 3700 S. Washington Blvd. for a report of a possibly deceased woman lying on the ground with flies on her, according to a probable cause statement.

When police arrived, they found the 50-year-old woman was dead and had “multiple” stab wounds on her body, according to a press release from the South Ogden Police Department.

The woman’s body was found lying in some weeds, the release says.

Police later interviewed the two people who lived with the deceased woman in a nearby apartment — Ramos and another woman.

After being read his Miranda rights, Ramos allegedly admitted to stabbing the woman and carrying her body to the location where it was found, the statement says. He also told police that he cleaned up the crime scene and threw away potential evidence.

Police believe the stabbing took place in the apartment where all three people lived, according to Lt. Dwight Ruth of the South Ogden Police.

The probable cause statement says the other woman told police she saw Ramos stab the woman with a knife, and Ramos threatened to stab her too if she reported him to the police.

Police found the murder weapon in a dumpster close to the murder scene, according to the probable cause statement.

The SOPD press release adds that the woman’s autopsy is finished, but police are not releasing her name until family members have been notified.

Ramos has a history of assault and using a knife as a weapon, according to court documents.

On June 23, 2017, he was charged with two counts of felony aggravated assault in Salt Lake County after he allegedly stabbed his two roommates. Ramos’ girlfriend told police he was drinking alcohol when he said he “wanted to join his brother in prison,” according to a probable cause statement for the case.

Ramos later reached into a car where his roommates were sitting and allegedly stabbed a woman two times and a man three times, according to the statement.

In February, Ramos was later deemed not competent to stand trial for the assault charges. The charges were later dropped and Ramos was placed under supervised release.

He is being held without bail at the Weber County Jail.
