South Ogden joins Washington Terrace in consolidation of Senior Center services

Re: Closure of the South Ogden City Senior Center

On November 20, 2018, after many months of analysis and evaluation by city and county leaders, the South Ogden City Council voted 3 to 2 to declare the South Ogden Senior Center building surplus to the city’s needs.

Throughout Weber County, senior citizen services are provided through partnerships between Weber Human Services and municipalities. In most cases, these partnerships are such that municipalities provide the buildings/facilities and Weber Human Services provides the staffing and programming.

On November 28, 2018, representatives from Weber Human Services, South Ogden City and Washington Terrace City met and discussed plans to transition services currently being offered at the South Ogden Center to the Washington Terrace Center.  Senior citizens in the county are able to attend any of the senior centers throughout the county, South Ogden City officials believe the next most likely center for South Ogden seniors to attend will be the Washington Terrace Center (only 1.5 miles away from the South Ogden Center).

As of January 1, 2019, the South Ogden Senior Center will no longer be offering services. All programming from this center including: meals, classes, tax return filings, etc. will transfer to the Washington Terrace Center (4601 S. 300 W.). All South Ogden Senior Center patrons are encouraged to attend the Washington Terrace Center.

All seniors from South Ogden City are invited to attend the holiday lunch on December 14 at 12:00 p.m. at the Washington Terrace Center. The South Ogden Center holiday lunch will still be held on December 21, as scheduled. Weber Human Services will be providing free transportation from the South Ogden Center to the Washington Terrace Center for the December 14 holiday lunch. Thereafter, Weber Human Services will continue to provide transportation for qualifying seniors through “The Ride” program. The Ride provides transportation for seniors who do not have other means of transportation to access appointments, senior centers or other community interests.  A donation of $4.00 is requested (not required) for each round trip. To schedule The Ride services call (801) 625-3776.

South Ogden City and Weber Human Services are committed to making this a smooth, successful transition for the seniors of South Ogden.
