Road Construction - Hwy 89 & Harrison Blvd.
Utah Department of Transportation Road Project
Highway 89 and Harrison Boulevard
Regarding the road construction in the area of Highway 89 and Harrison Boulevard, please be advised that this is a state project on state roadways. Since the state, and the state only, has jurisdiction and authority over these roadways and the construction project, unfortunately there is nothing the South Ogden Police Department or South Ogden City administration can do about the traffic congestion. We ask that you use alternate routes whenever possible. Please exercise patience, plan ahead, and anticipate lengthy delays while traveling through the construction zones. We realize this has been an extremely inconvenient road project and we look forward to its completion.
For anyone wishing to make a complaint, please contact the UDOT complaint line at: 1-800-292-3557. For further questions or details, you can visit a direct link to their website regarding this project by clicking here.
We will post updates about the project as we receive them from UDOT (see below).
Thank you for your patience and cooperation.
CONSTRUCTION UPDATE AS OF JULY 22, 2015
US-89 CONSTRUCTION CONTINUES AT
SKYLINE DRIVE AND HARRISON BOULEVARD
LANE CLOSURES AND TRAFFIC SHIFTS
For the next few months motorists can expect lane shifts and intermittent lane closures throughout the duration of this project. Crews are dedicated to maintaining traffic lanes during peak hours, however, caution is urged in the construction area as equipment and crews are working very close to active traffic lanes. The project is anticipated to be complete early this fall.
CURRENT CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES
The following are planned activities for the coming week. Please note that due to weather, project conflicts, utility issues, or equipment/supply issues, schedules are subject to change.
New signal structures have been placed at the Skyline Drive intersection in preparation for upcoming traffic switch.
Asphalt paving will commence Monday, July 27 at the Harrison Blvd. intersection followed by paving at the Skyline Drive intersection.
Beginning Tuesday night, crews will shift traffic onto new pavement at the Skyline Drive intersection. Please slow down to become familiar with the new traffic pattern.
Wednesday, July 29, crews will switch Harrison Blvd. traffic into the new configuration just northwest of the current intersection with US-89.
1550 East at US-89 will close for construction of new concrete islands. All traffic will be directed to the new intersection at Harrison/East Ridgeline Drive on US-89.
This project will realign Harrison Boulevard (State Road 203) with East Ridgeline Drive, adding triple left turning lanes from southbound Harrison to eastbound US-89, double left turn lanes from northbound East Ridgeline Drive to westbound US-89 and a dedicated right ramp from westbound US-89 to northbound Harrison Boulevard. Work is also taking place at the US-89 and Skyline Drive intersection.
A significant design element of the US-89 and Harrison Boulevard project includes the installation of an underground 150-foot pedestrian tunnel east of Skyline Drive. This work requires narrowed traffic lanes, traffic shifts, and lane closures.
The first phase of tunnel installation is anticipated to complete July 28. Traffic on US-89 will switch to the south and the north phase of the tunnel installation will begin.
CHANGE IN TRAFFIC PATTERN
ALL LEFT TURN MOVEMENTS are temporarily eliminated at the Skyline Drive and US-89 Intersection. To help alleviate congestion. Beginning Thursday, July 30, all traffic will use the new intersection on US-89 at Harrison/East Ridgeline Drive. UDOT recommends the following detours:
A - US-89 Westbound (Walmart) - Proceed through Skyline Drive to East Ridgeline Drive, turn left
B - US-89 Eastbound (to Chevron) - Turn right onto East Ridgeline Drive and proceed to Skyline Drive
C - Skyline Drive (from Chevron) to access Southbound US-89 - Cross US-89 to East Ridgeline Drive, turn right to US-89.
D - Skyline Drive (from Walmart) to access Northbound US-89 - Continue across US-89 to Wasatch Drive, then left onto 5600 South, continue to Harrison Blvd.
Please expect delays while this traffic pattern is in place. Emergency Services have been notified of this traffic pattern.
It is anticipated this detour will be in effect through Mid-August.
UDOT has established a project-dedicated public involvement team for this project. You can learn more or ask questions using the information below.
