4400 S. Monroe Mid-block Crossing Removed

Due to public concern,  the mid-block pedestrian crossing at 4400 south Monroe has been a discussion point in several City Council meetings.  As required by federal regulations and with direction from the city council, a traffic engineering study was conducted.

Results from the traffic analysis were presented to the city attorney and Burch Creek Elementary for comments and input.

The analysis concluded that the mid-block crossing was unsafe according to multiple federal regulations, including its placement on a curve and between driveways.

The Burch Creek Elementary Community Council relayed, via Principal Proffer, their agreement that the crossing was unsafe and should be removed/relocated.

In order to correct the unsafe situation and reduce liability to the city, the crossing was removed.  The four way stop at 4500 south Monroe  will become the official  pedestrian crossing.
